The chosen winner by MUF for Miss Universe Fiji 2024 has provided a media statement over the voting controversy

Media release on behalf of Nadine Roberts by her media Rep

It was her dream to bring Miss Universe back to Fiji after 43 years.

If it hadn’t been for Nadine Roberts, who worked tirelessly for months without pay, none of this would have been possible. She spent thousands of her own money, raised additional funds, and still had to focus on competing. There would have been no Miss Universe Fiji without the hard work and dedication of Nadine Roberts, as stated by MUF (see press releases at missuniversefiji.org).

She was betrayed by the event organizer, who promised a fair and balanced vote. “As I was the favorite, my chances were very good, and I’m the most experienced. However, the organizer did not disclose that he had planned all along to stack the judges with his family, friends, business partners, and associates. Unbeknownst to me, he was also the manager of the person he announced as the winner on the night of the event.”
“He continually extorted me for more money, claiming that the event wouldn’t proceed if I didn’t send additional funds.” He extorted the licensee for tens of thousands of dollars without contributing a single cent to the event. He and his associates took all the ticket sales revenue. He was repeatedly caught saying it was best for him and his Fiji Indian business partner if a Fiji Indian contestant won to maximize profits from global sponsorships within the large Indian population.

He never disclosed his agenda when extorting more money, simply stating that as I was the clear favorite and judging would be fair, I should trust him—even as he asked for thousands more. He took advantage of a vulnerable woman for financial gain.

He exploited the licensee by promising paid sponsors to offset costs, but not a single paid sponsor materialized, only six-figure expenses that he never disclosed upfront. They are furious at being deceived so easily by this charlatan.

After the voting took place, it became evident how he manipulated and stacked the judges. He could count on 4 out of 7 judges to ensure the result. He had no authority to announce the winner and was not the licensee, so he had no right to be a judge, select judges, or manipulate them with comments such as “Nadine’s answers are too good,” “Nadine’s age is a concern; she’s 30,” and “her weight is an issue.” All these manipulative statements were made in front of the judges.

Nadine is heartbroken. All she asked for was honest and fair judging. He took tens of thousands of dollars from her and the licensee under false pretenses, deceiving them to gain a financial advantage. He thought he would get away with it until a licensee representative sent to ensure fair voting immediately reported major irregularities. It was discovered that all the judges were his friends, family, business partners, or associates. His Fijian Indian business partner cast the deciding vote, so he knew he had it in the bag and could then vote for Nadine to cover his tracks. They were all openly stating that it was best for a Fijian Indian contestant to win, for reasons now known.

Had Nadine known all along that she was being lied to and exploited for thousands of dollars, she and the licensee company would have been spared the deceit. When the investigation began and his plan was exposed, he lost control and threatened a media war against Nadine and the licensee. His sole focus was to extort even more money, and that remains his primary concern.

He made Nadine sing shortly after he wrongly announced his client as a winner. This was the ultimate humiliation. He has never apologized. All he cares about is ensuring his client, Manshika Prasad, retains the crown and is working overtime to deceive his media contacts. Many journalists, taking the easy route, simply copy and paste his lies.

Nadine now realizes that everything he said from day one was false. She placed her trust in a charlatan who took advantage of her in the cruelest way. To make matters worse, a serious incident occurred after the event, involving police intervention.

As there is an ongoing police investigation into the deeply concerning events that happened to Nadine that night, this matter cannot be publicly discussed at this stage.

Nadine feels naive for falling for his promises, and now realizes that he had no money and used her to attract sponsors and cover expenses. He never contributed a single cent toward the costs, despite being the event organizer. Instead, he demanded thousands of dollars in payments, including thousands from Nadine personally, which she can prove.

He took advantage of her vulnerabilities, knowing full well that she had separated from her husband 15 months prior. He exploited this situation in a nasty media smear campaign to cover up his vote-stacking and other misconduct against Nadine.

He lured vulnerable women by promising them lucrative contracts with Vodafone or reality-show opportunities, none of which materialized.

He did the same with the licensee company. Not a single paid sponsor emerged, yet there were six-figure expenses, with tens of thousands pocketed by him. The licensee, as far as I know, did not receive a single cent from the $18,000 in ticket sales for the night.

It is shocking to see how he is using his media contacts to deflect and smear Nadine and her former partner.
If only people knew the truth about what happened and how much he has twisted the facts to make his client appear as a victim, while the real suffering and heartbreak he has caused are overlooked. Nadine has battled a life-threatening illness for several years, and this stress is causing her to become sick again.

She simply wanted to help her native country and be a role model for young Fijian girls. Her dream has turned into a nightmare, and she is now constantly receiving death threats online and enduring cyberbullying due to the lies that the disgraced and terminated event organizer has fed to the MU, the BBC, and News outlets.
